Following is a summary of the friendly characters that assist the player in Stronghold.

Lord Woolsack is an elderly man and leads the remaining resistance against the four dukes together with Sir Longarm. He is a caring man who looked after the player after the death of their father. Yet he's also an overly cautious man who wishes to avoid open hostilities for as long as possible. This puts him at odds with the hotheaded Longarm more often than not.

Sir Longarm is an elderly knight and leads the remaining resistance against the four dukes, together with Lord Woolsack. He's an experienced and aggressive commander. This puts him at odds with the cautious Woolsack. The player is usually dispatched on missions by Sir Longarm while the old knight is either negotiating abroad or fighting battles elsewhere himself.

The sergeant is an old and experienced soldier who assists the captain during the Jewel of the North campaign in Stronghold: Definitive Edition.

The Black Friar is a mysterious monk who contacts the player from time to time to assist him with schematics for new weapons like the crossbow.

The king is the rightful ruler of the kingdom. He's been captured by barbarians while abroad, which lead the Wolf and his comrades to usurp power in his land. The player and Sir Longarm facilitate his release later during the war.
