Stronghold / Crusader not working... Try this! (by Jonesy from Steam)

Hey, guys. this is a short guide for those ones who are having problems with Stronghold or Crusader on Windows 8. I thought this could save much time to people, so I asked Jonesy if it would be ok me to post it here. I also hope it could be sticky, so it would be easily found. If I found some other possible solutions, I would add them to the text.

So i recently bought Windows 8.1 and this is the first time a game hasn't run from the get go!

 

However full credit goes to Ghost_Phriek. The post is quite abit further down the line but this worked perfecrly for me

 

Got it to work through Compatability Mode! I was using the incorrect file path. Here's what you have to do to get it working:

 

1. Press windows key + s to bring up search, Type Run programmes made for previous versions of windows" and Click on the "Run programs made for previous versions of Windows" app on the right side of the screen.

2. Click "Next" and let the troubleshooter run.

3. Choose the "Not listed" option from the menu and then click "Next".

4. Paste in the filepath for StrongholdHD. This is the default path:

 

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stronghold\Stronghold.exe

 

5. Click "Next" and let the troubleshooter run again. This time, click the "Try recommended settings" button.

6. Click the "Test the program..." button and StrongholdHD should open and run properly.

7. Close StrongholdHD and click "Next".

8. Click "Yes, save these settings for this program".

9. Close the Program Compatability Troubleshooter and StrongholdHD should run fine!

 

The game should now run properly.

 

Hope this helps a few people. Might be worth getting someone to sticky it to the top of the forum. As i said this is for windows 8.1, not sure if there is a similar feature on windows 7
