Map Editor Sussed

Recommended Posts

So I have been playing with the map editor for a bit and have noticed how much easier it is to make a map. I will be releasing my first map for SHC2 over the next 2-3 weeks (depending on schoolwork etc). The map will be medium/large and will be a 3 player map. It will not be my best as I haven't made a map using this type of editor before but I will put my best effort into it.

Quick question. Does anyone know how to pick what type of map I am creating? Skirmish/War Scenario etc? Or is there only skirmish? Thank you :)

Does the editor come with the game or is it a separate download?

If I got that right, it does come with the game, but it is not ran from the game - one can start it from Steam, before starting Crusader 2.

Nevertheless, I should tell, I do have the game, I read this on a forum. :)

As I was playing around with the map editor this eveing, I found something really cool:

In the map editor you can rotate objects into any direction.

For example, you can place gates at a 45? angle, to match with the diagonal walls.

But you can really place objects in any rotation you like and even tilt or re-size them. This should be particularly useful for decorative objects, like statues, barrels etc.

To do that, you have to select the object by Ctrl-clicking on it and then open the object tab at the right side of the screen. You can then type in the numbers directly there. The attached picture should demonstrate how it can be done.

But the editor will be like SH3, separate from the game?

Nigel you had me excited there for a minute, when I saw your pic I was thinking you were going to tell us you found they included an editor for changing buildings and sprites of sorts. nice to see you did find the rotation, digging into the game already, that's cool! I look forward to playing around with the editor:-)

Hope to see more.

 Hehe, sorry if I am telling you guys old news.

I never played much with the editor of SH2 and dont even have SH3, so this certainly was a good piece of news for me.

But yes, I am getting into it a bit an I like what I see.

At the end I think we will find that this editor will be quite easy to use.

This is something I too discovered. I think it's a nice feature, I myself will probably not use it, but I'm sure more advanced map editors will be able to do so, good find Nigel :)

By the way, this smells like being able to make a mod in which we could rotate buildings maybe.

In Age of Empires 3 players are not able to rotate buildings, while it is possible in scenario editor (which I never messed up with, but so I heard). In game it was locked, but someone managed to unlock this feature in game as well, so those of us who liked it were able to rotate buildings in game. I was even able to play multiplayer game, and rotate buildings, and it caused no problem at all. With exception to some guys calling me cheater, and stuff like that. :D

Still, in Age of Empires 3 it was possible to rotate buildings using mouse-wheel. Is that possible in Crusader 2 as well, or you have to type in the angles?
