I Don't Know If I Want to Post My Maps on the Steam Workshop Anymore....

Recommended Posts

As the title says I don't know if I want to post on the Steam workshop anymore. Ever since March I've had people raging at me for how supposedly difficult or unfair my maps are.

And ya know what? Alright that's fine. Haters gonna hate right?

Now most of the maps I've seen on the SHL workshop are usually either some user map that requires players to spam troops or a skirmish map.

To my surprise I actually found a map that looked like it would be decent play. I skimmed the thumbnails and thought "This looks cool. I'll subscribe."

When I started I was initially somewhat excited as it seemed to not be some braindead map like others I've played in the past. However whilst I was working on the economy I actually took the time to do some scans of the map in order to strategize, then I saw the issue.

This map was plagiarized from another Steam user. And not just any user: Yours truly!

Now I find out that someone basically reskinned one of my maps (Mordred Campaign Ch 4 to be precise), changed the player faction to Ice, added some dragon nests, added rolling logs to the Arthuranian faction (I actually had that idea and initially implemented it, but removed it for favor of moat instead), put some more castle structures, added a dragon nest, etc.

Fundamentally though, the design was the same.

The textures on the ground-both existing and lack thereof, the shrubbery, position of where they are located, the traps, the objectives, etc.

Whilst they did change some things like the last two images which shows my version and their version. I can see they added some trees, a dragon's nest, some blockades, ruins, and some castle structure. Okay, sure it was empty.

And sure they changed the briefing and increased the resources given...superficial changes though.

They also clearly recolored some of the land so they can build using the Arthuranian faction and added some walls and ruins...mosaic plagiarism amiright?

The point is this user made very minor changes overall and there's no way they can even call this an original work.

And it's just that stuff like this that I was worried about when posting my maps on the Steam workshop. At least I can report it since I have my original map posted there so I'm sure Steam will see the many similarities, but dang fam. I thought it would give me a bit more exposure and more importantly, some cool comments to read-which I got.

All in all I'm just frustrated someone did this. It took a fair amount of time to create these maps. For someone to just come along and essentially just reskin what I did sucks. It also doesn't help that this was one of the more original maps I've made

Anyways, thank y'all for listening to my rant. I'm not too sure where posts about venting-especially plagiarism goes. On the other hand it's pretty important to at least talk about it when it happens.

Thanks, Chris.

Sorry to hear about that, Ignasheun... I put a few pieces on the workshop a while back and I haven't had much trouble, fortunately. However, I also haven't been paying attention to what else is going on out there.

Thanks Planewalker,

I actually did play your maps. I really enjoyed Defending the Ridge and War of The Wolves was creative.

The user didn't know, they apologized, deleted the submission, and all that, which alright. At that point I took a day or so off and now it's whatever. I'm not really angry about it anymore.

I somewhat overreacted admittedly.

However not long after a bunch of my accounts got hacked, I had to create a new email, reset a bunch of passwords, had to delete my YT channel since that was hacked too...

I guess I just a lot of bad luck this week. 😞

Glad you enjoyed those! They're about twenty years old now. :classic_blink:

For it being on the internet, that user reacted pretty well, I'd say. I suppose that went better than expected.

One glimmer out of a load of rotten luck!

I'm trying to download Stronghold Legends on Steam and I'm having some issues. It first started with an update (which @ Sir Windows worked out might have been the post October update after Halloween) and I get one of two responses. One is attached below, the other is a could not connect style error. I know there are some options I haven't tried, but what I have done so far: Clear download cache (more than a few times) Login/out of steam (a few times at least) Hibernat

So after having many crashing issues with version 1.2 of Stronghold Legends and shortly after realizing I lost the Stronghold Collection disk sometime after Christmas (if you don't know you can still play the Stronghold Collection games even if you lose the disk if the game is already downloaded to your computer) I uninstalled Stronghold Legends v 1.2 from my laptop a day or two ago. Today I did obtain the game again through Steam (yay!) and whilst playing through the King Arthur campaign (just

Hi so I just joined yesterday and was wondering if there is any way to see you can see what maps you have uploaded for Custom War scenarios? I just uploaded a Stronghold Legends user map I made but I have bad memory and realized when I uploaded it just now that it may have been a reupload from yesterday. Also I have 15 user made maps (1 freebuild, the other 14 are CW)  so I can easily see myself accidentally reuploading maps especially if they have not shown on the website yet. How can I ke
