  1. Actually, I am better at Stronghold Crusader, but I am exploring Stronghold 2 now as well. :) Yes, that is a similar thing - about apple farms. :)
  2. We fought a great war this evening. We played it on his map again, I was again in south-west, while he was in central position. I was victorious this time, but it was hardly won victory. Tokamaps fought like a lion defending his lord, and he was able to choose good positions for his army to fight. He would choose a position, and he would guard it, and while I was attacking and trying to defeat his troops I was suffering great loses. Luckily for me, I managed to hold the western bank of the river, and I was getting resources from there. We started with 7500 gold as dukes. I right from the beginning bought the village north of my castle. I tried to attack him soon after no rush period ended if I remember correctly (that was four years). I think that I attacked first after he bought the village on the island. After I defeated his troops on the island I moved more forward to get his village on the hill, though that was only not to let him use that village. Next I tried attacking directly his castle, but I failed there, and I retreated. Then I saw I was able to reach his castle from north, so I sent my troops to the north. At that point I sent my swordsmen to take over the village in the north for myself, and I moved on towards his castle. I failed again, he was attacking my troops while they were crossing the bridge, and I had too much loses. I retreated again. Next I started to attack him with trebuchets. He was using the river well in his favor. It took quite a while while I was attacking his castle with trebuchets, and I felt that it leads to nowhere. I started to look for alternative ways to take him down, though all ways to his castle were closed. I tried to attack him again from south with laddermen, and I failed again, I lost my knight then. Fortunately for me, he didn't remove the ladders, and he didn't reclaim his gate, so I was able to train light cavalry. I sent them though his gatehouse and I raided his city and his village which otherwise wouldn't be approachable otherwise. This way I managed to mess up his economy a little. At that time his also moved with his lord outside his castle, and he reclaimed the village on the hill - he held his lord there with knights and other troops as well. I was trying to kill his lord there, but I was failing. Later he moved his lord back to the castle, and I managed to come closer to him, but it took a lot of time until I was able to take down his lord. After five hours for fighting I managed to do that. This was very interesting game to me, and I saw Tokamaps using lots of trick I wouldn't use. We were fighting a lot, so I was able to learn a lot about using different types of troops. Some units showed to be more useful than I was expecting. :) One of those units is cat. I didn't know it protects units so well against ballistae and even against mangonels. I will keep that in mind, although I keep the same opinion about them as about shields in Crusader 1. They seem to be overpowered, and if someone wanted he would be able to send 50 crossbowmen under cats and attack 50 crossbowmen on a large round tower, and I believe those crossbowmen on the tower wouldn't stand a chance. That doesn't make sense to me, but still, if my opponents wasn't to use them, what's stopping me from using them as well. :)
  3. It's seems that you're pretty good Stronghold Legends player, Wynette. :) I have never player SHL much, I preferred SH2, but those two are similar, so after some time I could give SHL another chance. I also have one question - what you say about building apples... Is that so you would build more apple orchards? I do something like that in Stronghold 2, I manage to place more orchards then in any other way. At least is seems to me like that.
  4. I just meant to say that I saw you are still in Age of Empires 3 room, so when you're done just reply to this forum message when you're ready to start Stronghold 2 gane, and I will receive your message over email.
  5. you meant 4 iron estates, but three of them can have only one iron mine. :)
  6. That's great! :) I also agree that MP is the best with this one, so and if you find some time to make another event with this map, I hope I would be able to join. :) I know that it's something you've already played, but if anyone would like to play it again, I would be up for that.
  7. By the way, I was playing your map again this evening. I believe you said that there are two estates in which one can build two iron mines? I have seen that the middle estate is like that, but I saw no else estate on which more then one iron mines can be built. I have noticed that those where one can build exactly one iron mine are the one is south-west, in west, and on the hill close to sea. Is there any other place where we can build iron mine on the map?
  8. That's great, I'm glad to hear that. Sure. Do we play the same map, by the way? We could play the same one, if you ask me, but if you have other suggestions we could do other way. Of course, if you want, we could play my map Dolina Odmetnika, though that one is not balanced.
  9. Well, yes, SHL does have some good stuff which were later kept in newer Stronghold games. For example, market you mentioned - in SHL one can set the market to automatically sell or buy resources. This isn't the case with older Stronghold games, while it is something they kept in Crusader 2. There are siege towers in older Stronghold games too, I also like them, only unfortunately those are not present in Crusader 2 (nor laddermen).
  10. People also visit Stronghold Heaven, though here is the community more active. And regarding you not having time to play - well, yeah, it's same case with us here. :D Only there are some moments when we can meet and play a game together. It's way better more interesting to play with players you know. :) EDIT: I haven't played SHL for a long time, and I haven't been so much into it, I've always liked more SH1, SHC, and SH2 because they are more realistic. On the other hand, few years ago I started to like some stuff with Stronghold 2 more, so maybe I could give SHL another chance. :)
  11. Hi, and welcome to Stronghold Nation. There are SHN members who like SHL more, and now and then they make events, but like you did now, you can always check if someone could play a game now and then, and I am also sure someone will be pleased to play it in multiplayer with you. :) By the way, can one play SHL in multiplayer with AI lords as well? I mean, like you, me, and Siegfried for example. :) In SH2 it is not possible.
  12. Oh, I thought you built the two of those quarries that were there when I took the village. :) I agree, only it is still better for me to have iron, as the only thing I could do with pitch would be selling it. Of course, placing pitch on the ground would also be interesting, but that is too little effective against knights. :(
  13. Well, I guess I will have to take a better look at the map. :D I will try a skirmish from north-east position against computer to see what it is like, and I will search the map a little bit more. :) Oh, and really nice idea to send those guys with boats into the sea, if I wasn't fighting in front of your castle I could have not noticed them, and maybe you would be able to kill my lord. :D
  14. I have just made a brief history of our war in the tread. :D It was a great fight. I believe you weren't expecting my archers to attack you on that island, but I was also lucky to have iron so I was able to produce metal armors, and later swords as well. That is true, your position was pretty hard. On one hard it was easy to defend, as there is only one passage into your estate, but on the other hand, unlike me and my ally you didn't have any village close to you. The closes one was the one in the middle where you could have found only fields and forests (no iron nor stone), and it was hard to defend as well. Still, it would be something easier to deal with me if you didn't those troops on the island. Oh, and by the way, am I the only one who make different type villages - like iron producing, stone producing, etc? I believe you didn't set any of those on your map? It's not that important, it is also interesting to leave everything for the player to build what he needs, but I also find it interesting when I player can take a village, and find some iron or stone already produced there waiting to be transported to my castle? :) Neither of those two is better of course, it is only a matter of taste, but there are lots of maps with all villages being default type. :)
  15. Nigel didn't make it, he dealt to do another thing this evening. Tokamaps, one his friend, and I played a game. We played 1v2, as we agreed that it is most likely that teams like that to be even. We played his map The Chokepoint Island, I was in south-west, Tokamaps was in north-east, and his friend was in north-west. We played with 2 years no rush. The first fights began when he got close to me. He took the island estate with stone, while at the same moment I took the estate north of my castle. I decided to attack capture the island when I saw he had only some archers and light cavalry there, while I had only archers, in overall I had more troops. I managed to defeat his troops there, and the island was mine. I set the defenses, and later I was he also holds the next estate - in the middle of the map. He had prepared stone structures there to send crossbowmen there. As soon as my pikemen and one or several swordsmen arrived on the island I went to take that estate too. I built stone buildings there to defend the village, and later I saw that he had the last remaining village as well, so I took that one too - it was far from him and harder to defend. Next we were mostly fighting in front of his castle estate. There were some interesting skirmishes, and Tokamaps had some interesting ideas how to deal with my catapults, and how to mess up with us - in general. For example, he was using spies to sneak into our territories to destroy buildings or to destroy our trebuchets. Later when I learned what he does I had knights which were ready to act. After some time me and my ally were struggling to break down his defenses, we needed a lot of patience for that, and after some time we finally managed to destroy his towers and to break his walls, and to enter in with our knights, and to take down his lord. He was a great enemy in this war, and I must say that what effected the cause of the war the most was me having large castle estate in which I was able to build one iron mine, and that first battle in which I defeated his troops on the island. If that went differently the war would be harder to win, or maybe it would have been his victory. Also, now when I know the map better, I like it even more - it's not just that interesting landscape but it is interesting resource placement as well - one stone village, one village with marches, and several villages have iron, while none of the village can have more than one iron mine. The map is awesome. :)
  16. You can subscribe to this entire section 52 Weeks of Stronghold, and you would get a notification each time there is a contest, and by the time there will be a Stronghold 2 related one as well. Only I believe this same one won't take place again this year, but maybe we could expect a similar one. In January was a contest with making a was scenario I think.
  17. Only now I can't see it even though i logged in. I see it only when I edit my message.
  18. Great, I'm happy to hear that. :) I hope Nigel will be able to play too, and maybe someone else manages to join the fun. :)
  19. Hi. I wrote about this before, but now I didn't manage to find that exact tread... I was thinking about making a table I could also print, and that would help me in playing Stronghold 2 - especially in multiplayer. The thing is that there are many cheap, yet useful, buildings which you can build since some rank, but at the moment you may not notice that, and now you can have a reminder for that. At that moment Chris showed me this article he had already made. I used this article now, and I have made it into a word document and pdf file. I hope this will be helpful to others. Another thing I also did with the table (I didn't just copy/paste it, though basically that is what I did), but I also marked those most important things for me by red color. For example, archers, spearmen, pikemen, crossbowen, swordsmen, jousting ground, traveling fair, musicians guild, church, candler workshops etc are among those I have marked with red color (candles can be produces before building a church according to the article). Building vegetable farm just after upgrading my rank is pretty cheap if I have where to put several those farms, while by forgetting to place those I would "lose" some honor. Same goes for jousting ground and traveling fair. Besides this coloring, I also regrouped those a little, so now those buildings for dealing crime in the castle are all on one row, so when one sees "courthouse" knows the rest, and they can move on to see what's next. PS. I am not submitting this into Downloads Central, as there is already an article about this, and this indeed belong to articles not Downloads Central I believe. If Chris wants to, he could add a link to these documents into the article. EDIT: I have submitted the attachment, but it appears not to be visible, or something like that. When I click to edit the post, I can see it submitted twice which I mistakenly did. For now you can download the files from here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ix37yjhknxoe2lr/Stronghold%202%20ranks.zip?dl=0 SECOND EDIT: I have also created another version of the same file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1bv1zyzuykvjvyv/Stronghold%202%20ranks%20compact.docx?dl=0 This one is without tables. Thanks to this you are able to transfer the file to your phone, and view everything way more easily in Word. :) Stronghold 2 ranks.zip Stronghold 2 ranks.zip
  20. How about playing this one on Wednesday instead? I am unsure about Thursday, while some of my obligations from Wednesday delayed to Thursday.
  21. But I believe you can give a player a tiny castle estate, this way he just unpauses the game, and goes on to fight. Can't that do the job? Also, his castle and the lord wouldn't appear as the estate is too small for that (2x2 squares).
  22. So, for now I believe the three of us are sure up for this game, but hopefully there will be others who will also be willing to join the fight. :)
